Welcome to our blog!

This is where the fun begins outside of the Theme Parks! A little bit of the real Florida and a taste of what this part of America is all about (& what many people unfortunately do not necessarily get to see).  Florida was once known as "a most inhospitable place" and is now one of the top travel destinations in the world.  Delve a little deeper here to see unique things this State has to offer...

Sunflowers in the Sunshine State

Updated: Mar 17, 2018

Beginning late summer/early fall you can view these wonderful small sunflowers along the St Johns River, Lake Harney or the most spectacular view is on Lake Jessup right next to the 417 bridge towards Sanford.

Many people say that these flowers are not sunflowers, but they are called “swamp sunflowers” and are in the same family (Helianthus angustifolius), living in very boggy conditions.

If there hasn’t been heavy rainfall you are relatively safe to visit these areas without much more than a pair of sneakers but do watch where you walk. If there has been more rain, then a pair of boots will be necessary. Many of these areas are used as cow pastures too, and so that should be taken into consideration!

The couple of places I’m going to mention here you don’t need to pay for parking, and Lake Jessup Wilderness Area is the most accessible for parking, picnic tables and a boat ramp.

As always, be on the lookout for critters – especially snakes & gators (although I’ve been a few times and never come across any you should be on the lookout).

Bug repellent would be advisable too…

Have a great time – it really is a spectacular view, with the bobbing yellow heads against the blue sky😊
