Welcome to our blog!

This is where the fun begins outside of the Theme Parks! A little bit of the real Florida and a taste of what this part of America is all about (& what many people unfortunately do not necessarily get to see).  Florida was once known as "a most inhospitable place" and is now one of the top travel destinations in the world.  Delve a little deeper here to see unique things this State has to offer...

Away from it all... Alexander Springs

Updated: Mar 17, 2018

This is one of our favorite Springs to visit but is the one more difficult to get to. I don’t really mean difficult, I mean more of a chore – there’s no direct route to get there, but maybe that’s why it’s probably one of the quieter ones😊

That doesn’t necessarily mean that you’d get in without a wait during the summer months on a weekend though – the same goes for any of the Springs. There are strict guidelines and once the parking lot is full you then must wait until someone leaves.

We’ve been here as soon as it opens before, and seen otters playing in the water… absolutely a slice of heaven😊 You’ll sometimes see racoons here during the day too – hoping for some picnic scraps, and the trash cans are made bear proof… no explanation needed!

The water is a cool 72 degrees year-round, due to the first magnitude spring. The color of the water around the spring head is a bright turquoise and quite exquisite, and the sandy bank gently guides you into the pool of water. We’ve found crayfish here too, so mind your toes in case they nip, lol😊 There are a fair amount of small fish that dart around in the water too. The spring is surrounded by many trees and gives it a very tropical feel.

Canoes can be rented from the concession stand here, but if needing this off season please call ahead to make sure they’re accessible. Scuba diving is allowed too, and proof of certification needs to be provided, and bring your own gear. For general information please call 352-669-3522.

There is a nature trail that takes you behind the spring into a wooded area and this location was once home to the Timucuan Indians.

Camping is also allowed here and should be booked early for staying during the peak season.

Alexander Springs can be found at 49525 County Road 445, Altoona, FL 32702
