If you don’t want to spend the whole day at Kennedy Space Center but would like to sample a little of the history of space missions, then this might just be the place for you to visit😊
This park is only 15 miles across the Indian River from the launch pads of Canaveral Spaceport, and is a very popular spot to watch rocket launches, with live time feed playing through speakers in the park. The tall block building you can see across the water is the Vehicle Assembly Building where they build larger space vehicles & is largest one-story building in the world!
If you’re lucky you might also catch a glimpse of dolphins or a manatee in the lagoon as well as many different birds, turtles or other critters.
The park recognizes the men & women that helped make the space program come to life, and the astronauts that flew the missions.
There is an Apollo monument to honor the program that made exploring the moon a reality. This was designed by a local artist, Sandy Storm, and twelve bronze slabs tell the Apollo story. Along with this are bronze cast handprints of six of the seven original astronauts where you can lay your hands into theirs.
Other monuments are the Mercury and veteran’s memorial, the Gemini memorial and the Shuttle monument, each of them giving a description of the space programs and honors local contributors.
Space View Park can be found at 188 E Broad St, Titusville, FL 32796
